Nicholas Kristof Biography and Wikipedia

Nicholas Donabet Kristoff is a professional American political commentator and journalist. He is a regular contributor on CNN as well as op-ed columns for the New York Times from 2001 through to 2021. He is a two-time Pulitzer Prize winner and has a long resume of achievements and accolades throughout his career.

Kristof wrote three pieces about Kevin Cooper, a man sentenced to death for murdering a family in California, between 2010 and 2018. Kristof argued in these pieces that Cooper was framed by a racist Sheriff’s department and that the genuine perpetrator was a white contract killer named Lee Furrow.

Following the third story, both Kamala Harris and Dianne Feinstein called for the second round of DNA testing to determine whether Cooper was framed. To resolve the issue, retiring Governor Jerry Brown ordered limited retesting seven months after the story was published; the testing is still underway.

In July 2021, survey research was undertaken that appeared to be aimed towards recruiting him or evaluating his potential appeal, as a contender for governor of Oregon in 2022, when Kate Brown’s tenure ends. Kristof quit The New York Times in October 2021 after organizing a political action committee for his future candidacy. He announced his run for Oregon Gubernatorial seat as a democrat on October 27, 2021.
