On Sunday, he was traveling in California when he was involved in a motorcycle accident. Shepard, who claimed he may take a sabbatical from riding bikes for the rest of the year, also stated track workers chastised him for not quickly exiting the track to avoid being hit by a motorbike.

Despite his injury, Shepard iced his shoulder and sat out for roughly 90 minutes before returning to the track for two more workouts. Noting that he was in so much pain by the time he wrapped up, he drove the roughly 500 miles back home to Los Angeles and went to the hospital the next day.
