Chris Sligh Biography and Wiki

Chris Sligh is a singer, songwriter, producer, and preacher from the United States. He was a finalist on American Idol’s sixth season, ending in tenth place. Since 2001, he has released 14 albums as a solo artist, with his band Half Past Forever, or with his previous church’s musical institution, Shoreline Music.

Sligh auditioned in Birmingham, Alabama, singing Seal’s “Kiss from a Rose,” to which Paula Abdul gave a standing ovation and said, “I like you very much.” The American Idol judges laughed at his objective of “making David Hasselhoff cry,” a reference to Hasselhoff’s sobbing when Taylor Hicks won season 5. Sligh was an early favorite among the judges, with all three praising a boy with curly hair who did not seem to be your typical American Idol contender.

Paula likened him to Penn Jillette of the Penn & Teller comedy team, with whom he has certain similarities. However, when Sligh sang DcTalk’s “We All Wanna Be Loved” in the third week of the semi-finals, the judges were tougher on him. Sligh was sent off American Idol on March 28, 2007, and so ranks eighth in Season Six.

During his last performance, he said to Phil Stacey, “You owe me $50,” alluding to their bet that he would be removed that night. The next day, Sligh revealed that he did not want to win the competition and had pondered quitting two weeks previously, but remained in order to reach the top ten and go on tour with the other top ten finalists.

Later, he said that his urge to quit was identical to that of anybody doing a job and feeling like they couldn’t do it any longer. He also debunked the misconception that he didn’t want to win, stating, “I never set out to win because it would have driven me nuts; I merely focused on minor targets, the first of which was to place in the top 10 so that I could go on tour.”

In November 2007, Sligh announced the signing of a solo contract with Brash Music, an Atlanta-based independent label distributed by Warner Bros, ADA Distribution, and Word Distribution. Running Back to You was produced by Brown Bannister, Stephen Leiweke, and Will Owsley.

Sligh’s CD was published on May 6, 2008, via Brash Music. The first official single, “Empty Me,” was added to radio playlists on February 22, 2008, and reached number six on the Billboard Hot Christian Songs Charts.

In April 2018, he released A Modern Liturgy. The album received similar favorable reviews as Mighty Roar / Healing Flood, with 4/5 ratings from JesusFreakHideout and 4/4 stars from CCM Magazine. Sligh created and produced new artist Jenna Long in 2018, as well as the bulk of an EP for Curt Anderson. In 2019, he teamed with Worship Tutorials to develop a series of videos.
